Ellen's Felted Work

Nuno felted scarves are handmade from fine merino wool, sometimes incorporating silk scarves or silk “hankies” and decorated with beads, additional felted features, felted fringes, or embroidery.  Because it is made of merino wool the scarf is very soft, warm, light weight, and very comfortable to wear. Felted scarves and wraps are handmade and can be worn on two sides – the first is generally more vivid, the other side may be muted. The scarves work with dressy or casual clothes and coats.

Nuno Felting

Nuno felting is a fabric felting technique derived from the Japanese word “nuno,” meaning cloth. The technique bonds loose fiber, usually wool, into sheer fabric such as silk gauze, creating a strong lightweight fabric that will not stretch out of shape. The fibers can completely cover the background fabric, or they may be used as a decorative design that allows the backing fabric to show. Nuno felting often incorporates several layers of loose fibers combined to build up color, texture, and/or design elements in the finished fabric.

You may also press the piece with your iorn set at SILK/WOOL . Steam is okay to use while doing this. Never put a felted garment in the dryer.
